NEW NAME, SAME CULT CINEMA!

Hello and welcome to CULTPLEX! Or, the artist formerly known as Chapeltown Picture House.

Under the guise of Chapeltown Picture House (Or CPH, if you’re cool), we’ve been serving audiences cult pop culture on the big screen since 2019. Over that short span of time we’ve built a truly special community of film/tv/comedy/gaming/sports fans that come together regularly at our little cinema to relish in the communal experience of nerding out together over things we love. 

Now as we roll into 2023 for what promises to be another amazing year for the cinema, we decided it was the right time for a little change of clothes and alas, CULTPLEX is born! 

So why CULTPLEX I hear you ask? 

Firstly and simply, our current location has nothing remotely to do with Chapeltown any more! For those unfamiliar with our backstory, the OG CPH was located in Ancoats, within Chapeltown Street Mills - hence the name. We welcomed our first audiences to that site in 2019 and early 2020, but then the pandemic happened, and CPH had to take a nap. Our parent company GRUB then opened a new site on Red Bank, which had the perfect potential space for a little cinema within, so in late 2020, the cinema as you know it was born and reopened in early 2021 to great success! 

It was only a matter of time before we shook off the CPH moniker for something newer, and something a little more fitting because we’re not just a picturehouse any more. We’ll always show classic cult films but our house is full of comedy, cabaret, music, video games, quizzes, podcasts and so much more now. We’re going to be showing more films, doing more nerd stuff and having more fun than ever before.

We love CULTPLEX and we hope you do too! Nothing will be fundamentally changing with the venue, the programming and vibes you’ve come to know and love from us, it’s simply a change of name to reflect who we are now. The new name also gives us the flexibility to produce awesome events outside of the four walls of the cinema as well as start planning to move to a new home so we can fit more of you nerds in. The feedback we regularly receive from you all is loving having a place to celebrate cult TV/films/games etc, so we thought CULTPLEX was a perfect fit! 

Also launching in line with CULTPLEX is our exciting new membership scheme! It’s something you’ve all been asking for, and here it is! In line with our accessible pricing, the memberships are also very fairly priced, starting at £30 for an annual membership which will get you free tickets, 20% off any of our other screenings, exclusive member only screenings, and a unique pin badge to show off your cult cinema cred! Or sign up for a LIFETIME for only £70, we’re basically married at that point, until death do us part!
